The Çukurova cotton, citrus, maize and wheat belt; Adana's grain and produce traders
The most productive farmland in Türkiye, irrigated from the Seyhan and Ceyhan rivers, running two and sometimes three crops a year. Everything else in the city's economy grew out of it.
Textiles & apparel
Spinning, weaving and garment plants across the Adana OSB estates
The direct descendant of the cotton trade and still a major employer, with the whole chain from ginning to finished garment inside the province.
Food & beverage manufacturing
Oil pressing, canning, flour, feed and citrus packing
Processing what the plain grows — a counter-cyclical, non-seasonal employer that anchors a lot of the industrial estate work around Sarıçam and Yüreğir.
Energy, chemicals & the Ceyhan terminal
The Ceyhan oil terminal and Yumurtalık free zone, ~100 km east
Ceyhan is where the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan and Iraq-Türkiye pipelines reach the Mediterranean, with a tank farm, a free zone and heavy industry around it — the highest-paying technical jobs in the province are here.
Logistics & transport
The Adana-Mersin corridor, Şakirpaşa airport, the Gaziantep and Ankara motorways
Adana sits at the hinge of southern Türkiye: Mersin's container port an hour west, the Syrian border two hours east, and the Taurus passes north to Ankara. Freight and distribution are a bigger employer than the city's profile suggests.
Higher education & health
Çukurova Üniversitesi and its Balcalı hospital; Adana Şehir Hastanesi
Balcalı is the tertiary referral hospital for the whole eastern Mediterranean region, and with the Ministry of Health's city hospital alongside it, healthcare is one of the largest single employers in Adana.
