Use ARTIC if your commute happens to line up
The Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center beside Angel Stadium carries Metrolink's Orange County line and Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner, putting Los Angeles Union Station and much of north Orange County within a rail commute. OCTA runs a dense bus network across the flat western half of the city. If your office is near a station this is genuinely viable; if it is in an industrial park in Anaheim Canyon it is not.

Things most newcomers don’t know

California can refuse to register a car you already own.

The state runs its own emission standards, and a vehicle certified only to the 49-state federal standard can be barred from new-resident registration if it is recent and low-mileage. This catches people who buy a car shortly before relocating. It is a ten-minute check against the DMV and Air Resources Board rules, and far cheaper before the move than after.

The vehicle licence fee inside California registration is calculated on the car's value, so a recent or expensive vehicle costs several times what registration costs in Texas or Oklahoma. The 91 has no parallel route, and that is the whole problem.

Most congested corridors have an alternative. The 91 through the Santa Ana Canyon is the only road between Orange County and the Inland Empire for a long stretch, so there is nowhere for the traffic to go and no rat run to learn. It is the single biggest quality-of-life variable in choosing between eastern and western Anaheim, and it does not show up on a map of distances.
