Jobs in Beersheba

The sectors hiring, the employers to know, and how work really runs here.

Beershebaruns on a handful of strong industries. If you’re job-hunting or weighing a move, here’s where the opportunities (and the big-name employers) are.

Top industries & employers

Cyber security and defence technology

The Gav-Yam Negev Advanced Technologies Park, the CyberSpark cluster, Elbit Systems, Deutsche Telekom's innovation lab, Lockheed Martin

A cluster built deliberately around the university and the state's cyber policy, sitting next to Be'er Sheva North station. The IDF's new technology campus beside it — 150,000 sq m, with the C4I complex already operational — is the largest single addition to this labour market in the city's history.

Healthcare

Soroka Medical Center (Clalit), and the Ben-Gurion Faculty of Health Sciences on the same campus

1,191 beds, about 5,700 staff including over 900 doctors and 2,000 nurses, serving roughly a million people from Kiryat Gat and Ashkelon to Eilat. It is the largest employer in the city and the only tertiary and trauma centre in the entire south.

Higher education and research

Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, with campuses in the city, at Sde Boker and in Eilat

Roughly 18,000 students on an urban campus in the middle of Beersheba, with real strength in desert research, water, energy, robotics and cyber. It is why the tech park is here and why the medical school is here, and it is a substantial employer in its own right.

Desert and water research

The Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research at Sde Boker, and the Zuckerberg Institute for Water Research

Israel's arid-zone science is concentrated here for the obvious reason. Desert agriculture, solar energy, desalination and water reuse are genuine specialisms with international collaboration, and Beersheba is the town they are administered from.

Defence and military logistics

Ir HaBahadim, the IDF training campus south of the city, and Israel Aerospace Industries facilities in the region

The IDF's move south began with the training city in 2015 and has continued with operational technology units. It brings a large and permanent population of soldiers, career officers, contractors and their families into the region, and a lot of civilian logistics work with it.

Regional commerce and public services

Beersheba Municipality, the district courts and government offices, the malls and the Bedouin market

As the capital of the Negev, Beersheba houses the southern district's courts, government bureaux and regional headquarters, and its retail draws from the whole desert. That regional-capital role is a steady employment base independent of the tech and defence cycles.
