Lebanon's banking sector was the region's most sophisticated for decades and has been in crisis and restructuring since 2019. It remains a large employer, but this is a sector undergoing statutory reorganisation rather than one that is hiring in the ordinary way.

Lebanon hosts one of the world's largest refugee populations per capita, and the international humanitarian sector is a substantial employer of internationally and nationally recruited professionals in Beirut.

AUB and USJ are among the oldest and most respected universities in the region, and AUBMC has historically been a referral hospital for the wider Middle East. Both remain genuine centres of excellence under severe financial pressure.

A significant number of Lebanese engineers and designers now work remotely for employers abroad and are paid in fresh dollars, which is one of the more resilient parts of the economy.
