Things to do in Cebu

Where locals actually go — culture, neighbourhoods, nature and a few hidden gems.

Editor's picks

A local's shortlist — the places worth your time first, each with a tip.

Cebu IT Park (Asiatown)

Neighborhood · Lahug, Cebu City

The metro's 24-hour district — towers, coworking, a night food market and the BPO workforce that keeps it awake.

Local tip: The Sugbo Mercado street-food market on weekend evenings is the best single introduction to the city's young professional scene.

Temple of Leah & Sirao

Landmark · Busay, above Cebu City

A Roman-style hilltop temple and a flower garden in the highlands above the city, with the whole metro laid out below.

Local tip: Go for sunset and stay for the night view, but come down before the mountain road gets dark and wet — it is steep and poorly lit.

Basilica del Santo Niño & Magellan's Cross

Culture · Downtown Cebu City

The oldest Catholic church in the Philippines, housing the Santo Niño image left by Magellan's expedition in 1521.

Local tip: Come on a Friday, when the devotional crowds and the street vendors outside are the real experience rather than the building.

Carbon Market

Food · Downtown Cebu City

The city's oldest and largest public market — produce, dried fish, flowers and the food economy the malls sit on top of.

Local tip: Go early with a local, carry small notes and leave the valuables at home. It is chaotic and it is where Cebu actually shops.

Kawasan Falls & Moalboal

Nature · Southwest Cebu, 2–3 hours away

Turquoise river falls and a coastline famous for a resident sardine run you can swim into straight off the beach.

Local tip: Go midweek. The sardine run at Panagsama is reachable from shore without a boat, which almost nowhere else in the world offers.

Bantayan and the northern beaches

Hidden gem

Nature · Northern Cebu and offshore

White-sand islands off the top of Cebu, reached by a long drive and a ferry, and still far quieter than the Mactan resorts.

Local tip: The northern towns were hit hard by the 2025 earthquake and recovery is uneven — check locally before booking, and consider that visiting is a form of support.
