Find your country's category
Three buckets: (a) a published list of roughly 33–38 countries that direct-exchange with NO test (most of Western Europe, the UK, US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, plus Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Hong Kong, Brunei and Malaysia); (b) road test only, skip driving school; (c) eligible for a shorter (half) training course. Published versions of the list differ, so have a driving school or the Traffic Department confirm your bucket before you pay for anything.

Things most newcomers don’t know

GCC licences are NO LONGER a free pass (changed 2024).

Until late 2023, a Saudi/UAE/Kuwait/Bahrain/Oman licence exchanged directly. Now GCC holders must sit a road test — yet most websites and Reddit threads still say otherwise.
