Meet people in Doha

31 clubs, studios and groups that are running now, each checked against a dated source in Nov 2026.

Doha is easy to arrive in and hard to break into. Most friendships here start in a group that meets at the same time every week, a Friday run, a Tuesday class, a monthly book club, and nearly all of them organise on Instagram and WhatsApp rather than in public listings. These are the groups we could confirm are active, each with the source we checked it against.

Where groups in Doha actually live

Instagram
Where almost every group on this page posts its schedule. Message the account before a first visit; organisers expect it.
WhatsApp
The group chat you get added to after you turn up once. It is where the real schedule lives, and it is rarely public.
Facebook groups
Older clubs still post sessions there, Doha Bay Running Club among them. Many Doha Facebook groups have gone quiet, so check the date of the last post.
Meetup
A few groups use it, such as Dune Riders Club for desert drives. Most do not.
r/qatar
Where newcomers ask where to meet people, and where the answers name the groups that are actually running.
  • The weekend is Friday and Saturday, and the mornings of both are the big group slots. Thursday evening is when the week ends, which is why the federation's community runs are on Thursdays.
  • The outdoor season runs roughly October to May. Through the summer, groups start before sunrise, move indoors or pause: Necessity Run Club stops its Saturday runs, and the Natural History Group's talks run October to June.
  • During Ramadan, expect sessions to move to the evening or pause. Check each group's channel rather than assuming the usual time holds.

The unsaid rules

What residents say about making friends here, and the legal lines a group should not cross.

Go back to the same thing

Residents are blunt that approaching someone in public, especially a woman, gets you read as a creep, and that the reliable route is through mutual friends. Those start with seeing the same people every week in a shared setting, until the coffee after becomes the point.

Instagram first, Facebook with care

A newcomer looking for a book club in March 2026 found that most of the Facebook ones were no longer active. The groups that are run on Instagram, and move the regulars into WhatsApp.

Many women choose big, public, daytime groups

Women on r/qatar say a spontaneous outing with strangers feels risky unless the group is large and public. Studios often run ladies-only classes, and some groups exist only for women.

Ask before you photograph or post anyone

Taking or sharing pictures of people without their consent can mean prison or a fine of up to QAR 100,000, and posts that insult people or are culturally insensitive can be a crime. At a group event, ask before the group photo goes on Instagram.

Keep faith out of group settings

Religion is a sensitive subject, and public worship or proselytising by non-Islamic faiths is illegal. Yoga, breathwork and meditation run openly in studios as wellbeing; keep anything beyond that private.

Alcohol and affection stay out of public places

Alcohol is sold only in licensed hotels, restaurants and bars, and drinking anywhere else can mean prison or a fine. Intimacy in public can lead to arrest. Groups meet in parks, malls, cafés and hotels with that in mind.

Events hosted by Globe Quest members

None scheduled right now. The groups above are where things are happening this week. If you want to start something of your own, members can post an event and invite people.

Some of this may be out of date. Spotted something inaccurate? Help us keep it right for the next newcomer.

How this list is made

Every group here exists independently of Globe Quest. Each one is listed only when a source from the last 18 months shows it running: the organiser's own page, a dated article or listing, or residents on Reddit. Those sources are named on every card. We do not publish member counts or ratings, because nobody here counted them. If you run a group, use the form above to correct its listing or add yours.
