Jobs in Grenoble

The sectors hiring, the employers to know, and how work really runs here.

Grenobleruns on a handful of strong industries. If you’re job-hunting or weighing a move, here’s where the opportunities (and the big-name employers) are.

Top industries & employers

Semiconductors & microelectronics

STMicroelectronics Crolles, Soitec (Bernin), CEA-Leti, Aledia, Lynred, Kalray

One of the few genuinely world-scale advanced-microelectronics clusters outside Asia and the United States: CEA-Leti was entrusted with one of the European Chips Act pilot lines in 2024, and the STMicroelectronics fab at Crolles alone employs several thousand people.

Public research & big science

CEA Grenoble, CNRS, Inria, ESRF, Institut Laue-Langevin, EMBL Grenoble, IBS

The polygone scientifique concentrates an unusual amount of European research infrastructure in one place — a synchrotron, a neutron source and a molecular biology outstation on adjoining sites, hosting thousands of visiting scientists a year.

Energy & industrial technology

Schneider Electric, Air Liquide Advanced Technologies, Atos/Eviden legacy teams, Vicat

Electrical engineering and energy management have been the city's industrial base since hydroelectricity was pioneered in these valleys; Schneider Electric's roots and a large part of its research remain here.

Higher education

Université Grenoble Alpes, Grenoble INP, Grenoble École de Management, Sciences Po Grenoble

UGA is one of France's largest universities with roughly 57,000 students including around 11,000 international ones, which is simultaneously the city's greatest asset and the reason the rental market is what it is.

Health & biotech

CHU Grenoble Alpes, Inserm, Clinatec, Institut de Biologie Structurale

A university hospital tightly coupled to the physics and instrumentation base next door, with structural biology and medical-device research the strongest strands.

Outdoor industry & mountain economy

Petzl, Rossignol (Isère sites), Raidlight, Millet nearby, Poma

The mountain sports industry is a real employer here rather than a lifestyle detail — Petzl and the cable-car maker Poma are both Isère companies, and the ski resorts are a seasonal labour market of their own.
