Nigeria's entire banking sector is headquartered here, along the Marina and on Victoria Island. Access and UBA both run substantial pan-African networks from Lagos.
Fintech & technology
Flutterwave, Paystack, Moniepoint, Kuda, Interswitch
Yaba — 'Yabacon Valley' — and increasingly Lekki host the densest startup cluster in Africa. Nigeria has produced more fintech unicorns than any other African country, and nearly all of them were built in Lagos.
Oil, gas & energy
Shell Nigeria, TotalEnergies, Chevron, Seplat, Dangote Refinery
The upstream fields are in the Niger Delta but the corporate offices are on Victoria Island and in Lekki. The Dangote refinery at Lekki is the largest single-train refinery in the world and has reshaped the fuel market.
Telecoms
MTN Nigeria, Airtel Africa, Globacom, 9mobile
Nigeria is Africa's largest mobile market by subscribers and all four operators run their national businesses from Lagos. MTN Nigeria is the largest company on the Nigerian Exchange.
Entertainment & media
Mavin Records, EbonyLife, Channels TV, Multichoice Nigeria
Afrobeats and Nollywood are both Lagos industries. The city exports more culture than any other in Africa, and the music business in particular is concentrated in Lekki and Ikeja.
Manufacturing, logistics & ports
Dangote Group, Nigerian Breweries, Flour Mills, Lekki Deep Sea Port
Apapa and Tin Can are Nigeria's main ports and their congestion is legendary; the Lekki Deep Sea Port, operational since 2023, was built to relieve them and has shifted freight patterns across the city.
