Meet people in Seattle

17 clubs, studios and groups that are running now, each checked against a dated source in Nov 2026.

Seattle has a name for its problem: the Seattle Freeze, a city that is polite to newcomers and slow to befriend them. The groups that beat it meet on a fixed night every week, and most of them run through Meetup, where you can see the next date and RSVP before you go. These are the ones we could confirm are running, each with the source we checked it against.

Where groups in Seattle actually live

Meetup
The backbone here. The big running, games, books and friendship groups post every session on Meetup, and some cap RSVPs, so sign up before you turn up.
Instagram and Strava
Where newer run clubs announce routes and the bar or coffee shop afterwards.
Club websites
Cycling, trail volunteering, dance and Toastmasters publish full calendars on their own sites.
  • Weeknight evenings from about 6 to 7 and Saturday mornings are when most groups meet.
  • Summer moves everything outdoors, with free park series such as Yoga in the Park. From November it is dark before 5, and the calendar leans on game nights, book clubs and indoor dance.

The unsaid rules

What residents say about making friends here, and the legal lines a group should not cross.

The Freeze is real, and repetition melts it

Locals still describe the Seattle Freeze to newcomers: people are friendly in passing and hard to make plans with. What changes that is seeing the same faces every week, at a run, a game night or a reading hour, until the plans make themselves.

RSVP on Meetup, and then go

Seattle's largest groups count you through Meetup, and some cap seats or run members-only events, so the RSVP is how you get in. Hosts expect strangers: the board-game group's hosts say they are happy to teach, and the running group welcomes first-timers.

Quiet formats are a feature, not a compromise

Several groups are built for people who find mixing hard. Silent Book Club starts with quick introductions, reads in silence for an hour, and only then chats; anyone can read and leave.

Events hosted by Globe Quest members

None scheduled right now. The groups above are where things are happening this week. If you want to start something of your own, members can post an event and invite people.

Some of this may be out of date. Spotted something inaccurate? Help us keep it right for the next newcomer.

How this list is made

Every group here exists independently of Globe Quest. Each one is listed only when a source from the last 18 months shows it running: the organiser's own page, a dated article or listing, or residents on Reddit. Those sources are named on every card. We do not publish member counts or ratings, because nobody here counted them. If you run a group, use the form above to correct its listing or add yours.
