Netcetera, Endava, Seavus, Sourcico, Semos, Cosmic Development
The one sector that pays European money on Macedonian costs: average net pay in information and communication was MKD 90,485 in May 2026 against MKD 49,544 across the whole economy — a 1.8× premium, and the widest gap of any sector in the country.
Automotive components
Kromberg & Schubert, Dräxlmaier, Kostal, Amphenol Technologies, ODW Elektrik
Concentrated in the technological industrial development zones at Bunardžik and Ilinden on the city's northern edge — wiring harnesses, sensors and seat systems feeding German assembly lines. Shift work, and the largest single private employer group in the Skopje basin.
Pharmaceuticals
Alkaloid, Replek, Zdravje
Alkaloid has been headquartered in Skopje since 1936 and is one of the few Macedonian brands with a real regional footprint. Its plant is a landmark in its own right — the traffic police publish it as a radar reference point on the eastern approach.
Banking & finance
Komercijalna Banka, Stopanska Banka, NLB Banka, Halkbank, Sparkasse Bank Makedonija, ProCredit
Almost the whole sector is headquartered within a few blocks of Ploštad Makedonija. Foreign ownership is the norm rather than the exception, which is why English-language service is better here than in most Macedonian offices.
Infrastructure & construction
Bechtel–ENKA joint venture, Granit, Beton
Corridors 8 and 10d are the largest capital programme in the country's history, and the Law on Foreigners was amended specifically to let strategic-project employers hire outside the quota and without an Employment Agency opinion. If you are being recruited onto one of these, your route is different from everyone else's.
Business services & outsourcing
Regional shared-service and BPO centres, plus a large freelance layer on Upwork and Toptal
Low costs, a Central European time zone and a young population with good English make Skopje a natural nearshoring base. The freelance layer is bigger than the employment statistics show, because most of it invoices abroad from a registered sole trader.
