Jobs in Windhoek

The sectors hiring, the employers to know, and how work really runs here.

Windhoekruns on a handful of strong industries. If you’re job-hunting or weighing a move, here’s where the opportunities (and the big-name employers) are.

Top industries & employers

Mining

Rössing Uranium, Swakop Uranium (Husab), Namdeb, Debmarine Namibia, B2Gold

Namibia is one of the world's largest uranium producers, and Debmarine recovers diamonds from the seabed rather than from open pits — a genuinely distinctive industry. Corporate and technical functions run from Windhoek.

Oil & gas exploration

TotalEnergies, Galp, Rhino Resources, NAMCOR

The Orange Basin discoveries since 2022 made Namibia the most-watched exploration frontier in Africa. Shell wrote down its own discovery as commercially unviable in January 2025, while TotalEnergies has continued toward a development decision on Venus — the sector is real and not yet producing.

Green hydrogen & renewables

Hyphen Hydrogen Energy, NamPower, Cleanergy

The Hyphen project at Lüderitz is one of the largest proposed green hydrogen developments anywhere, and Namibia's solar resource is world-class. It remains a development project with a long runway rather than an operating industry.

Tourism & conservation

Gondwana Collection, Wilderness, NACSO conservancies, Namibia Wildlife Resorts

Namibia's community conservancy model gave rural communities rights over wildlife and is internationally studied. Conservation NGOs and tourism operators are among the larger employers of foreign professionals here.

Fishing & marine

Namibian fishing companies operating from Walvis Bay

The Benguela current supports one of the richest fisheries on the continent, processed and exported through Walvis Bay. The corporate and licensing side sits in Windhoek.

Government, finance & development

Bank of Namibia, NamRA, Namibian commercial banks, GIZ, UN agencies

Government is the largest formal employer, and the German development agency GIZ has a long-standing and unusually large presence — a legacy of the colonial relationship that continues to shape the professional expatriate community.
