Things most newcomers don’t know

The reduced Blue Card threshold for shortage occupations is what makes Dortmund work.

Ruhr salaries run below the German big-city average, so the standard EU Blue Card salary floor is not automatically cleared here the way it is in Frankfurt. The lower threshold for shortage occupations — which covers most IT, engineering and natural-science roles, exactly the fields the Technologiepark hires into — is frequently the difference between a Blue Card and a general work permit.
