Things most newcomers don’t know

A self-sponsored visa survives losing a client. An employer-sponsored one does not survive losing a job.

Employer sponsorship ties your residency, your family's residency and your bank account to a single employment relationship, with only a grace period if it ends. A free-zone company you own keeps sponsoring you as long as you renew the licence. People weigh only the upfront cost and miss that they are also buying independence from one company's HR decisions.

The 60-day clock is your liability even when someone else does the paperwork.

Your active duties are the medical and the biometrics; the PRO handles the rest. But the 60-day completion window runs from your entry and overstay fines accrue against the applicant, not the sponsor. In a smaller emirate with fewer PRO firms, a slow file is a real risk — track each stage and start chasing well before day sixty.

There is no visa sticker, and small-emirate landlords still ask for one.

Since 2022 the residence permit outside Dubai is entirely digital. Landlords, banks and overseas officials who ask to see 'the visa stamp' should be shown the Emirates ID or the residence-permit PDF from the UAEICP app. It catches people more here than in Dubai simply because Dubai is the one emirate that still issues stickers, so guides keep describing them.
