What to know before you go
Gurgaon is in Haryana, and that changes your paperwork
CriticalTwenty kilometres from Delhi, but a different state: a different FRRO jurisdiction for registration, different stamp duty on your rent agreement, different vehicle registration and road tax, and different school admission systems. Register with the FRRO covering your Gurgaon address — since November 2025 that is FRRO Chandigarh, not Delhi's, even though Delhi is far closer. People who commute into Delhi routinely assume otherwise and have to start over.
The building's own infrastructure is the thing you are actually renting
CriticalGurgaon's municipal drainage, water and power supply have never kept pace with its towers, so the good condominiums provide their own: full power backup on a diesel generator, water from borewells and tankers with treatment, and internal drainage. Ask concretely — does the generator power my whole flat or only the lifts, where does the water come from, does the basement flood. These questions matter far more than the kitchen finish.
Register with e-FRRO within 14 days if your visa is over 180 days
CriticalEmployment visa holders with a visa valid over 180 days must register within 14 days of arrival, online through e-FRRO, with passport, address proof, appointment letter, employment contract and proof of income. No agent is needed. Use the office with jurisdiction over your Gurgaon address — for Haryana that is FRRO Chandigarh, which the portal will confirm when you select your address.
The winter air is Delhi's air
CriticalGurgaon sits inside the National Capital Region airshed and experiences the same severe air quality from late October to January — routinely 'very poor' and often 'severe'. Budget for proper HEPA purifiers in bedrooms and workspaces and spare filters, and treat N95 masks outdoors in December as normal. This is a genuine health consideration, especially with children.

CriticalThe Permanent Account Number gates banking, salary and most financial transactions, and without it your employer must deduct tax at a higher rate. Foreign nationals can apply online. Start it in week one.
The monsoon commute is the local test of a place to live
ImportantGurgaon floods, sometimes catastrophically — the 2016 gridlock lasted over twenty hours after a single heavy day. Ask specifically whether the route between your flat and your office is one of the known flooding stretches, and whether the condominium's own basement and approach road hold up. Long-term residents can tell you; the brochure cannot.
